Eastman is an American company that operates internationally and is known for developing specialized recycling technology.  The company plans to invest up to $1 billion in a new plastic recycling facility in France which will create 1800 jobs (350 direct ones).  Eastman’s highly innovative polyester renewal technology will make it possible to recycle up to 160,000 metric tonnes of hard-to-treat plastic waste annually.

For Clarins, this is a new step toward a circular economy

Clarins has been carbon neutral since 2020 and has made a commitment to reducing emissions by 30% by 2025.  Within this same timeframe, 100% of product packaging will be recyclable and 50% of the components used will come from recycled material.

Clarins’ joint effort with Eastman will make it possible to take significant steps on the path to a resolutely circular economy:

• A second life for packaging that, until now, has been difficult to recycle (for example, PET material with incorporated pumps);
• the supply of recycled (AND recyclable) raw materials for packaging will be considerably increased.

100% Made in France

Eastman’s new facility in France will also reinforce Clarins’ Made in France logic and the ‘short circuit’ approach the company has favoured for years: products formulated and developed in France, with as many raw materials as possible coming from nearby sources.  The supply of recycled and recyclable material produced in France by Eastman is fully in line with Clarins’ approach, aimed at continuously reducing the company’s carbon footprint.
